Sara Sherman, Discovery Horse

It is safe to say that I graduated from the EGC certification program a stronger, healthier more confident version of myself. I speak both personally and professionally. As the sales liaison for the program, I share my passion for this method regularly, I look forward to each opportunity. Since 1999 I have been learning/working and training in the equine helping industry. I have dabbled in many methods. None of them hold a candle to what is offered through the Equine Gestalt Coaching Method certification program. Melisa offers a comprehensive business development component that truly sets her above the rest.

The requirement to do personal work throughout the program sets a high standard of healing for the helping professional and truly speaks to the integrity of the program. It is through the personal work I did during my training that has led me to a level of self-compassion I would have never thought possible.

The levels of learning are never ending.  When I started the program in 2011, I lived on a small city lot and had not had horses in my life for years. I was working in the mental health system and feeling pretty uninspired by life. As I look back over the past 5 years I am blown away by what has transpired. Discovery Horse has been featured in multiple magazines, both in print and digital format.  I have been asked to present at industry wide conferences and am planning a retreat in Australia this winter! Our growth has been steady.

For several years I operated out of boarding facility as my business, Discovery Horse, grew. I found my soul pony during the program, and have since expanded my herd to 8 horses! Last year we purchased 15 acres of dream property.

Over the years I have facilitated over 300 groups and countless individual sessions. I hit a bucket list item in 2015 when I was invited to present on the TEDx stage. My talk is titled “Horses See Our Armor” and has had almost 7000 views to date.

As I type this, I am sitting on my deck watching the herd graze in the sunset. I had an individual session this morning and a group of at-risk teen boys here in the afternoon. This program has helped me discover who I am and what I am capable of. And it gave me tools to follow through. I feel competent as a coach and an entrepreneur.

Last year, my partner Matt joined the certification program. I am so excited to practice the Equine Gestalt Coaching Method with this man. We met in 1999 at Prescott College in Prescott, Arizona. During a summer break Matt and I went on a road trip fly-fishing between MI and Arizona. I very specifically remember a conversation we had in a state park in Colorado. We let ourselves dream and decided we wanted to have a camp for kids and families that gave them a place to heal and thrive. We wanted to include horses and the outdoors. As I sit here, I realize we are truly living in that vision and it keeps getting better!
