Kathy O’Connor, One Neigh at a Time

My life before I found Touched by a Horse had no direction or purpose. I didn’t know what I was missing until I was shown through the direct learning process of being coached in order to become a coach.  Becoming an Equine Gestalt Coach has been the most amazing journey.  As an EGC coach, my equine partner and I now have the honor of using all I have been taught to guide others to discovering their personal journey.

I started the program in July 2014. I received all of my textbooks, was assigned a personal coach and started my first intensive CORE at Melisa Pearce’s beautiful ranch in Colorado. I was both apprehensive and excited.  I had recently spent a weekend exploring another program where a therapist and a horse handler used horses as reflectors for the client. I left there feeling that it was not a right fit for myself.  Melisa’s acceptance and kindness paired with her understanding of horses’ healing gifts and her Gestalt skills were apparent the moment CORE began.

My experiences only expanded throughout the next four days.  Melisa’s respect and love for horses and humans is so apparent in her teaching style. I was there to learn how to be an EGC coach, but I learned so much more.

One of the tools I was taught was to write a vision for my life.  At the time I was living in a home in a subdivision. I owned one horse and was paying for boarding. I was asked to dream big, to imagine my life 3 – 5 years in the future.  I envisioned myself starting my days out by sipping coffee on my deck, while watching my horses frolic and play in my pasture. Walking out to the barn and being greeted by the nickers and neighs of my equine partners.  After feeding them, I would go to my office, in my barn, and get ready for the clients that would be arriving soon.  I envisioned ending each day with an appreciation for being able to be in the presence of such beautiful healing animals, having total confidence in my coaching and grateful for each client trusting me and my horses with their hearts.

Today, only 2 years later, my vision is coming true, and then some.  I own my own ranch, which houses 3 Quarter horses, and 6 Gypsy Vanners — two who were born on the ranch in April 2016.  I am a graduate of the ES 101 program offered through TBAH, of which I gained confidence and knowledge about horse health and care. Through the guidance of the program I am an entrepreneur of One Neigh at a Time, LLC, specializing in recovery from addiction.

I am so thankful for Melisa Pearce and the Touch by a Horse Program. Learning the Equine Gestalt Coaching Method has given me the ability to listen to others, guide them to their heart’s awareness, while experiencing the whispers of a horse’s heart.

I started this journey not really knowing what I was paying for, but after my first CORE I no longer wondered if I was in the right program. I knew it was my destiny.  I have graduated knowing that I have the proper tools to coach with confidence.  By practicing amongst my peers and with the guidance of Melisa’s extensive knowledge and experience, I will prosper as an EGC coach, support my lifestyle and I am  privileged to have horses as partners in my work.

Knowing that I always have the support of my herdmates through our private Facebook community; knowing that my personal coach will continue to encourage me and be excited for my accomplishments; I am grateful for finding such an incredible coaching program. I am grateful for the ongoing learning and encouragement I receive as I grow my business. I am grateful for the generosity of Melisa’s personal commitment to me and my work. And I am grateful for the wonderful herd of Certified Practitioners who I can count on always.
